Two steps forward, one step backwards

Progress on the human model.

It's a good thing I'm not a comedian!

Painting and new charater model

Progress on the dancer:

And the start of a new character model:

The last few characters I did were all animals/creatures, so this time around it's a man.

Get it?

You know, it's been nothing but 3d modeling and painting for me lately, which is fine and dandy, but today I figured I could use some good ol' silliness.

I love cartoons.  I'm just like anyone else: when I was a kid, I got up early on Saturdays to watch cartoons and pick all the marshmellows out of the lucky charms box. I still love cartoons to this day, and like to draw them a lot too!  Anywho, quick doodle done in Photoshop.

Some entirely different painting progress

This is another photoshop painting I started this afternoon.

I'm going for an "Arabian Nights" kind of setting.  Still got a long ways to go on this one (as well as the other I've been posting, haha.)

Oh, I just got back from seeing Zombieland.  Craziness abound, but all in all I liked it a lot!

More Work

Some more missles.

The Hellfire, a Stinger land-to-air missle, and a basic TOW missl.  Still working on the shaders, but pretty happy with these for the most part.

Old sketch, new paint

This an older drawing that I'm currently redoing in photoshop.  My progress so far:

The creature is an original design.  He still has a ways to go, but it's a good start.

Exciting News!

I'll have some new sketches to post soon, but for now, I'll explain my short hiatus with a bit of exciting news.  I need to leave the house momentarily, so I'll elaborate on this post further later.

Firstly, some great news is that I've started an exciting new internship at Arizona Virtual Studios!  I love the work I'm doing there and hope to stay with the team for a long time.  However between this job and my other job, it accounts for much less free art time than I'm used to.  Right now I'm focusing on doing my best with my professional artwork, but also altering and solidifying myself into a schedule that will also allow for more free drawing/painting/3d time.  I've got some great projects floating around in my head, and expect to see great, creative new things in the future.

Secondly, another reason for my absense...

Finally, got a chance to finish this up. Used Maya, photoshop, and max towards the end.

speed painting, and a few changes

Hi all.  Sorry for the hiatus again.  Guess what I was doing?  You guessed it - another art test, lol.  Whenever I'm silent for a week or more, it's usually because I'm hard at work (sometimes head over heels!) on an art project of some sort.  But I'm finally finished with that, and happy how it turned out.  I wish I could post it here, but it's all non-disclosure so I'm afraid I can't share it with you.

I've also made a couple of changes on this page. First off, I finally figured out a way to alter my username so it displays as "Megan" instead of the blogengine username.  So hopefully that will clear up any confusion - there aren't two people on this blog, just me! :)

Secondly, I've added some google ad words.  I just want to be clear that I'm not trying to make money from this blog, or profit in any way other than to improve my artwork and get to know other artists.  This has only been added to help supplement the cost of hosting my website, to keep everything up and running. Thanks for understanding.

And finally, let's move past that wall of text and get something more exciting! This is a speed-painting I did, for work.
-EDIT-  Nevermind.  Unfortunately, I was required to move it.  Sigh, I wish I could post half the things that I worked on!!  Oh well..

Study of deep-sea life + extra sketch

Studying deep-sea marine life. The top one is a catfish with an unusual fin, and the bottom is an an amphipod (looks similar to shrimp, but isn't)

These guys life in total darkness, and outstanding pressure.  That little shrimpy guy (who was actually pretty huge) glowed bright yellow around his "head" and "stomach."  Very fascinating.  Reference used.

And also, a quick figure sketch I did at home.
